This morning we took our two Utah grandsons to the BYU family Christmas party. They loved it and I loved watching them. Their delight at Santa and all the festivities is sheer joy for me. I'm also softening.
I guess yesterday got the best of me. I am putting up my tree. The old lights wouldn't work and so we need to go buy new ones. But the tree in all its greenery is up and the creches are sitting around the house decorating all the mess of boxes and paper. I can't find the Christmas stocking, but I haven't given up hope that they will appear.
Christmas is coming!
Sorry I keep commenting this week. I have been thinking all week about how every year Christmas is so different... in good ways. Some years I am extra tender hearted... some years I feel silly like a child... some years I want to go out in the cold and see all the Christmas lights... some years I want to stay home by the tree. One of my most memorable Christmas's was as a teenager when Christmas was on a Sunday. We got up, had early church, and came home and opened presents with my elderly Grandma. It made it really special to not have early morning presents as a focus. It was a good reminder to me that there are good things each year and it doesn't always have to be the same. Anyhoo... enjoy your Christmas season.
ReplyDeleteI hope you enjoy everything about this Christmas, even with surgery hanging over your head. You know there is no deadline to take things down and put them away. I have a friend who leaves everything up every year until January 16th, to honor her grandfather's tradition from when he was a small child. I had surgery one year the week before Christmas, and on my birthday,no less. I was feeling sad about it, but it amazingly ended up being a memorable one, in a good way. I don't remember when stuff got put away or even if I had any help, but it was nice to slow down a bit and just take it all in. You have a great family who loves you so much, and I'm sure they will bring you all the loving Christmas spirit you can handle. And, Christmas is two weeks from today. By then, the surgery will be over and savoring the holiday will be in full force. Merry Christmas!!

I am glad you finally jumped on the "bandwagon" so to speak. If anything, Christmas is a wonderful reminder of our Savior's love for each of us, and a distraction from the silly cancer we battle daily.
ReplyDeleteWe have something else in common I found out while reading your older posts...My husband (who is also a Johnson), is from a family of ten children. And you, like his mother, are wonderful people in my book!!! What service you give your children!
Keep up the happy memories with family and friends.
Love ya from Gilber, AZ
