The Random House Webster's College Dictionary of 1996 gives 24 definitions of the word spirit. The ones that best capture the King James usage of the word are “an attitude or principle that pervades thought, stirs one to action, etc.,” and “feelings or mood with regard to exaltation or depression.” The definition of the Greek word for spirit is “the vital principal by which the body is animated; the power by which the human being feels, thinks, decides; the soul.”
What all this helps me understand is that the negative emotions that send us into the Pit of Illusion are not part of God’s plan for us. That is why when the Savior encountered these bad “spirits” in people, He healed them. And He will heal us as we turn to Him and let Him do His work.

I've had six good weeks in a row and I attribute most of that change in my emotions to the blessing I received. I'm also thankful for the right dosages of medicines that have helped as well. There is no way I could have overcome the depression I was in without the help of the Atonement. I'm so, so grateful! :)
I've been thinking lately about how to teach my children to love and serve each other and not fight and quarrel with another. In the process I realized I was having strong negative emotions when they do fight. I realized that I am bringing an additional? bad spirit into the situation when I get mad at them for fighting. So my key is somewhere in my own perspective and spirit. And if I teach by example, I have to also learn :). There can be so much more love in the world starting with me. I am always amazed at the chains of old habits and at the freedom of truth and love. Thank you again for bringing more truth into my life.

Alma 34: 34- that same spirit which doth possess your bodies at the time that ye go out of this life, that same spirit will have power to possess your body in that eternal world.
